BEIJING — The Beijing subway opens new stations on Line 11, Line 16, and Line 17 this morning. The newly opened phases increase the total operating distance to 836 km (519 miles), surpassing the Shanghai Metro (825 km/513 miles) to become the longest subway system in Greater China. The opening of 13 stations includes the north phase of Line 17, the final phase of Line 16, and Moshikou Station on Line 11. The north phase of Line 17 includes 10 stations, from Future Science City North to Workers’ Stadium. Nine of the stations opened today while Wangjing West Station remains closed due to construction. The four stations in the middle phase are still under construction. Therefore passengers will not be able to interchange for Lines 13&15 at Wangjing West Station or travel from the north phase of Line 17 to the south phase of Line 17 directly.
