This is an collaborate project with Nicholas OMalley. Boston– Emergency Shelter shortage - it’s been a problem for a while since November, 2023, while the state government uses transportation building(MTB) as a temporary solution for two weeks. Later in January this year, the Terminal E of Logan Airport was used as “de facto shelter” as well. Both of the locations are the overnight only shelter for the homeless families. And this temporary shelter has been kept until now. Where are the Shelters located across the state? The current families in the shelters are located in the state with significant locations around the Boston area. According to the bi-weekly report from the state, more than a half of families who currently stay in the state’s emergency shelter are located in the greater Boston Area. Most of the families live in the eastern part of the state. The families on the west side of the state are mostly located around the Springfield neighborhoods. In the Greater Boston area, the city of boston took nearly 20% of the…
Methods: The first thing we did is use the data from the MA Emergency Assistance Shelter Report. In its Appendix A, there is a list and table of the total families. But since the report was on PDF we used an open-source tool called Tabula to get the data out from the report. After that we could import data to the tableau and create some charts and graphs based on the family. There is a small problem when we extract these data, which is the first three towns–Acton, Amherst, Andover– their total number is on the third column instead of every town else which was on the second column. So we made a little bit of adjustment on this. After we cleaned the data, we were finally able to import this csv file into tableau. And we got some interesting findings which we discussed for the first time. So right here when we put data into the map, we found out that a lot of the resources and facility are located on the east side…
This is a collaborate project with David Cartledge. Original purpose and application These datasets were compiled by the MBTA to best inform commuters about the daily flow of public transit within the city of Boston. Using real time data collected and distributed by the MBTA, commuters are informed of any delays, slowdowns, or closures across the public transit system. Along with the knowledge of the delays, riders are informed of potential down time for each alert, as well as the reasoning behind the alert. This is the primary system the city uses to inform its riders of delays, as well as charts the accuracy of the delay warnings and ETA’s of the past through its years of logged data to best keep Bostonians informed. https://mbta-massdot.opendata.arcgis.com/datasets/155ab68df00145cabddfb90377201b0e/explore https://mbta-massdot.opendata.arcgis.com/datasets/90ed9092bd7a4285b296d5ff938edf29_0/explore History, standards, and format The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MASSDOT) has been compiling the dataset regarding the accuracy of the transit prediction system since 2020, while the system categorizing the reason for these shutdowns has been collected since the end of 2018. They have been the sole data collectors…

In the statement it released, the reason for stopping service is attributed to "financial pressures associated with inflation, fuel costs, exchange rates, cost of capital, regulatory costs, and competitive tension in the Canadian market have ultimately proven too steep a mountain for our organization to overcome." The company stated in the FAQ section that they will not be available to assist with refunds and asked customers to contact their credit card company to obtain refunds. The company is also going to void all the travel vouchers and flight vouchers once it ceases…
